About Carole
Carole Field's first spoken word as a child was "Nitti", the name of her beloved German Shepherd Dog. This proved to be a major insight into her heart and mind, as she has since spent a lifetime surrounded by dogs… training, showing, judging, writing about and photographing. She is a Dog World Award winning obedience competitor, licensed All-Breed UKC Performance Sports Judge, nationally published freelance writer and photographer, and a professional member of the Dog Writers Association of America since 1994.
Carole has handler/owner trained/titled 14 dogs (8 German Shepherd Dogs, 3 Dutch Shepherds and 3 Parson Jack Russell Terriers) to 212 titles (206 performance titles and 6 conformation tiles) acknowledging their competitive achievements in AKC Obedience, Schutzhund, K9 Pro Sports, French Ring Sport, Barn Hunt and the UKC venues of Agility, Conformation, Dock Jumping, Lure Coursing, Nosework, Obedience, Precision Coursing, Rally Obedience and Terrier Racing. Her dogs have garnered numerous High-Obedience and High-in-Trial awards, plus a Reserve Best-in-Show in conformation. Carole's dogs have also been awarded first place at the following canine protection tournaments throughout the Midwest: The Dog Sports Open (multiple times), The K9 Summerslam, Mr. K9’s Ladies Only Invitational, Sun Dog Street Dog Trial (multiple times), Sun Dog Pro-Am Trial, Windy City K9 Personal Protection Dog Trial and the 4-Thought “Street Wise” Civil Protection Dog Trial (multiple times) where she was the first woman handler to win this trial (1994) and one of only two competitors during the show's 25 year history to win twice with two different dogs.
Carole owned a retail pet supply store and dog obedience school for over 20 years (1985-2006) in the Andersonville community on the North side of Chicago. She is also a former board member (1989-1994) of Westside Dog Training Club, Inc in Chicago (an AKC Competitive Obedience Training Club) and in 1994 served as Director of Training. Carole was the founder and Director of Training of K9 Working Companions in Chicago (an Advanced Obedience and Personal Protection Dog Club) from 1990-2005.
Carole moved to St. Johns, Michigan in 2007 and now works as an independent management professional providing support activities for the pet care and animal production industry. She has been a UKC Performance Judge since 2006 licensed to judge Dog Sport (Obedience, Protection and Police Dog titles), Terrier Racing, Nosework, Socialized Pet Obedience and Canine Good Citizenship testing.
Carole has been a board member of the Capital City Dog Sport Association, a competition dog training club licensed for the UKC Dog Events (MI-115) of Dog Sport, Terrier Racing, Nosework, Shed Hunting and Dock Jumping, French Ring Sport (NARA) and Schutzhund (LV/DVG America IGP) in St. Johns, Michigan since 2006.
